Meiji Japanese Cast Bronze Relief Chrysanthemum & Birds Lamps 'Pair'

About the Item

A pair of large, cast bronze, urn-shaped lamps made circa 1885-1890, during the Meiji period (1868-1912) in Japan. They are decorated in both relief and applique with chrysanthemums, birds, leaves, and carved branches. Some of the applied details are patinated with subtle brick-red accents. They have ornately stylized bases with feet and are topped with a decorative, scalloped collar. They were recently rewired with dimmers on the sockets. 7" diameter x 20.25" height.
