About the Item

Handsome Mid-20th Century MCM (a.k.a. Mid Century Modern) carved wood Bishop chess piece table lamp with round wood base and tapered black paper tapered shade. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. We have replaced the felt on the base. It retains its original cord, 3-way socket, wiring, and plug and is in good working condition. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-20th Century. Did you know that in the game of chess there is a “good bishop” and a “bad bishop?” Well, I don’t know a THING about the game myself… however, I can tell you that THIS lamp definitely represents a “GREAT bishop!!” This table lamp is comprised of an intricately carved wood bishop’s face and headdress or “mitre” resting upon a round tapered wood base, and it is topped with a tapered black paper shade. Honestly, if you are a chess lover and you have a chessboard on a table in a study or a game room, this lamp would be the perfect touch beside your set up! But you don’t have to love chess to appreciate the eclectic feel and phenomenal presence of this masterpiece! He has lovely carved facial details, incredible wood grain, and a mid-century modern to modern style sure to set just the right ambience in any room in your home. I read that in the game of chess the bishop piece moves and captures diagonally upon the board, well, I recommend you move to “checkmate,” before it’s too late… and make this awesome lamp YOURS!!!!
