About the Item

Mid-Century American ceramic table lamp by Nancy Wickham (circa 1950s). The lamp features a dark brown vertically incised sgraffito over a creamy yellow matte base surface. The wiring / plug is currently American but may be easily adapted to your location. The artist's signature is incised and painted at the base near the wire exit. It is in good overall condition and in full working order. At the underside, there are some blemishes visible at the edges of the soft cloth covering the base. Lampshade is not included. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video will be provided. About the Artist: Nancy Wickham (Boyd) (1923-1987) was a Vermont based ceramics artist and potter. She studied her craft at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in Alfred, New York, in the mid 1940s, and subsequently established a studio and shop in Woodstock, Vermont, where she produced mainly functional ceramics. She first showed her work in 1946 at the famed Ceramic National exhibition at the Syracuse Museum of Fine Arts, showing there again in 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1955, and 1958. In the 1950s Wickham met and began working with Lee and Samuel Rosen who invited her to create ceramic lamp bodies for their newly established company, Design Technics. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s she produced many important pieces for the Rosens while she continued to sell her own signature style of functional and decorative pottery from her Vermont storefront. Examples of Wickham's work are included in the permanent holdings of the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York, and are represented elsewhere in public and private collections. Her ceramics have somewhat of a cult following and are collected both in the United States and internationally. Dimensions: H 23.5 cm / 9.3" (to top of lamp holder) Dia 11.5 cm / 4.5"

French Vintage Ceramic Table Lamp by Roger Capron, 'circa 1950s'
By Roger Capron

French decorative ceramic lamp with hand-painted horse by Roger Capron (circa 1950s). This is Capron's 'Coupe n°2 lamp' which is signed in the interior of the vertical base. A rare piece indeed, hand-painted with a stylised horse in his inimitable style. The ceramic is in fair overall condition showing some fading and marks commensurate with age and usage. This is an exceptional piece for admirers of the works of master ceramicist, Roger Capron. Signed: 'Capron Vallauris'. Lampshade shown in photos is 30 cm (11.8") in diameter and will be included when requested. Currently wired for usage in the UK but you can have it adapted to your location. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. Upon request a video can be provided. About the Artist: The mid-century ceramic art of Roger Capron (1922-2006) embodied the vibrant spirit and verve of Vallauris and the French Côte d'Azur. He took over an abandoned pottery studio at the age of 24 in Vallauris, where he worked with Robert Picault and then Jean Derval. Capron’s ceramic workshop, known as "l'Atelier Callis", contributed to the renaissance of ceramics in Vallauris and at its peak employed over 120 ceramicists. He eventually expanded his production of vases, pitchers and other functional wares to include coffee tables with hand glazed tiles, lamp bases, wall plaques and other interior decor objects along with sculptural statues...
