About the Item
Commanding in scale and sculptural presence, this exceptional table lamp has been meticulously crafted by Amitābha Studio from a rare large-format vintage Jasba "Cortina" vase—one of the most celebrated ceramic forms to emerge from West Germany's mid-century design renaissance.
The ceramic base showcases Jasba's iconic Cortina glaze: a dramatic volcanic crackle finish where raised islands of off-white and pale grey fracture over a dark recessed ground. This shrink-glaze technique, introduced in the mid-1950s, creates high-contrast texture reminiscent of cooled lava flows—each piece bearing its own organic pattern dictated by the kiln. What distinguishes this example is its exceptional size. Most surviving Cortina pieces are modest vessels; true floor-vase-scale forms in this decor are exceedingly rare, allowing this lamp to command attention in even the most spacious interiors.
The conversion honors the vase's integrity through thoughtful details: a custom brass-tone cap preserves the original form while housing the hardware, and a cloth-braided cord in black and grey echoes the monochrome palette. The tall cylindrical drum shade in black linen features a warm gold lining that transforms the light quality—casting a luminous halo upward and downward while bathing the vase in soft amber glow. When illuminated, the lamp functions as both sculptural statement and atmospheric lighting.
The black-white-brass-gold palette speaks fluently across eras: anchoring mid-century modern, brutalist, and minimalist interiors while bringing graphic sophistication to Hollywood Regency or contemporary spaces. This is functional art for the discerning collector—a convergence of rare vintage ceramics, artisanal conversion, and considered design that enriches a room with history, texture, and sculptural gravitas.
About Jasba Keramik
Founded in 1926 by Jakob Schwaderlapp in Ransbach-Baumbach, West Germany, Jasba Keramik became synonymous with bold experimental glazes during the mid-20th century. The Cortina crackle glaze remains one of Jasba's most iconic achievements, capturing the era's fascination with volcanic forms. Today, Jasba pieces are sought by collectors of West German art ceramics for their tactile richness and the enduring appeal of mid-century modernist design.

Spanish Revival Mid-Century Benlloch Manises Ceramic Table Lamp
By Manuel Benlloch
Located in AMSTERDAM, NL
Meticulously hand-crafted by Amitābha Studio from a vintage Manuel Benlloch Manises vase, this table lamp captures the spirit of Spanish Revival design. The tall, hexagonal base is finished in an ivory crackle glaze, a hallmark of Benlloch wares, and painted freehand in a bold palette of cobalt blue, rust-orange, and cream. Its rich patterning draws on Spain’s historic Hispano-Moresque and Mudéjar traditions, translated here into a vibrant mid-century ceramic form.
Each of the six faces is framed by cobalt ribs and filled with repeating ogee arches, lattice lozenges, and scrolling arabesques. The rhythmic interplay of color and geometry creates a bold yet refined surface, perfectly balancing ornament and structure. The underside bears the hand-painted signature “Benlloch España,” affirming its authenticity as a product of this renowned Manises workshop, active across three generations in the 20th century.
To echo the vase’s architectural silhouette, Amitābha Studio has paired the base with a new bespoke hexagonal lampshade. Crafted in warm Dupion silk in tones of orange, peach, and gold, the fabric’s natural texture harmonizes with the arabesques on the ceramic. A Houlès passementerie trim completes the design, while the shade’s golden glow enhances the lamp’s sculptural presence when illuminated.

Blue Neoclassical Ceramic Table Lamp, William Morris Acanthus Pleated Shade
By Morris & Co., Flora Gouda
Located in AMSTERDAM, NL
This vintage ceramic table lamp was handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam from a rare amphora-shaped vase by Flora Gouda, part of the Porcelina series produced between 1950 and 1970. We’ve paired the base with a bespoke hand-pleated lampshade in a reinterpreted William Morris Acanthus print, and finished it with a soft blue silk cord. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way.
The amphora form, with its fluted pedestal and graceful curves, reflects a neoclassical influence filtered through the clean, modernist lines of mid-century Dutch design. Finished in a pale, slate-toned matte glaze, the vase belongs to Flora’s Porcelina series—developed to meet shifting postwar tastes toward muted, architectural ceramics. Its powdery surface diffuses light gently, lending the lamp a quiet, sculptural quality.
The lampshade’s pleated craftsmanship echoes the vase’s ribbed detailing, while the indigo and ivory palette of the William Morris textile subtly mirrors the vase’s color story. Together, the lamp and shade create a thoughtful dialogue between classical reference and 20th-century restraint.
