About the Item
The world of lighting design is one that has developed extensively over time. Major changes to designers’ approach can be seen during the years of Art-Deco straight through the Mid-Century era. Lighting design today is a primarily sculptural discipline allowing for a multitude of possibilities when imagining lighting forms. Here we have a modernist take on a mushroom form lamp, quite space-age in its design but still relevant due to its simplicity.
In this piece there is design in both its form as well as its assembly. The dome shade simply rests on the chrome upper cap, which then slides onto the central chromed cylinder. Two screws bring this design together making it simple in both form and function. The combination of chrome and nickel can be seen most when the lamp is turned on, subtle and elegant materiality. The dome shade is offset which makes this lamp the perfect task light for daily work or for illuminating curiosities and artifacts.
This lamp remains in its original condition with minor wear consistent with age and history. It is fully functional and equipped with a rotary switch. Its petite scale allows for it to be placed in any environment such as an end table, desk, or perhaps a reading nook.
