Galerie Philia
Galerie Philia is an international contemporary sculptural design and art gallery representing emerging and established designers and artists. The gallery is the brainchild of two brothers who share a lifetime passion for art, literature and philosophy. Their distinct academic background sets them apart from their peers, as it sees them following a rhizomatic and transcultural approach in the way they select works. This involves combining elements from multiple cultures in what becomes a network of harmoniously interconnected roots, ultimately revealing the beauty of each unique creation. The gallery’s non-hierarchical curation sits apart from the ephemerality of trends and focuses instead on the true aesthetic quality of the piece – alluring and timeless. Unlike others, Galerie Philia does not focus on a single style – whether minimalist, organic or raw – but rather embraces heterogeneity. The Galerie Philia takes pride in discovering new talents, providing them with multiple international platforms to showcase their latest creations. As well as propelling the newest generation of 21st century collectible design, Galerie Philia also works with internationally known design artists. Galerie Philia has a strong international presence, with galleries in Geneva, New York and Singapore. In addition to their permanent spaces, the gallery organizes temporary group exhibitions and artists residencies in first-class locations around the world.

- Waves No 370, a Unique orange & celadon Handblown Glass Bowl by Neil WilkinBy Neil WilkinLocated in London, GB'Waves No 370' is a beautifully crafted, handblown glass bowl by the British artist, Neil Wilkin. 'Waves' is a collection of beautifully crafted, unique glass bowls and centrepieces by the British artist Neil Wilkin. Taking a painterly approach, Neil Wilkin merges his colours to create a larger palette of soft hues. Utilising both transparent and opaque glass adds to the soft aesthetic of each piece adding an ethereal effect. Since graduating in 1981, Neil Wilkin has used his skills to produce exquisite, luxury glass from his workshop. Clients from every sector include individuals, interior designers, property developers, architects etc. Companies include -Thomas Goode, The Grove, Asprey, Liberty, Cunard, Disney, Grosvenor Estate and Four Seasons. His specialist restoration skills earned him coveted commissions including the ‘blanks’ for the Royal Windsor Castle fire damaged chandeliers and speciality working with international artists to make their own artworks. Is his own words: ‘As a child I wanted to be a geologist. My father introduced me to materials and science by bringing home as many different elements as he could and I remember shiny metals, black carbon and vivid yellow sulphur. The geology beneath our feet shapes and colours our environment in every way. From the rusty iron of the red Australian outback, to the sunshine on the ground which drives our weather, not least the rain in the verdant Welsh hills where the folded rocks turn everything upside down, and we have a pool at the top of the hill. It was colour and heat that first pulled me towards the furnace at college. I had gone to work with my hands as a potter, and left obsessed with fire and glass making. I just enjoy making whether building a shed or a furnace or making things grow in the garden there are not enough hours in the day to do all the making I need to do. Since Rachael (Woodman, fellow glass artist) and I started our first workshop in Bath, 1984, my making skills have developed by realising the ideas of others, and in the 'melting pot' of many visiting artists I got my fix of glassmaking and colour. Over the last 10 years I have travelled and worked with different materials and methods, but I find myself more at home back in front of the furnace. When I blow glass the colours in glass behave like layers of rock. Hard and soft, absorbing and transmitting heat just as they do light...Category

- Wood-Fired Ceramic Vase by Paul ChaleffBy Paul ChaleffLocated in Atlanta, GAA stoneware vase by Paul Chaleff (1947-) made in 1984. Chaleff is known for his wood fired ceramic vessel without glaze or sometimes natural ash glaze. The vase on offer is of a highly geometrical form with handcut multifaceted lower body that rises and morphs into a rounded upper body with two hand-molded ears above the shoulder. The surface shows nice firing color variations due to the iron oxidation in the kiln and also carved lines left intentionally by the artist. It is marked with the artist's incised signature and date 84. This piece has a very strong Japanese wabi-sabi appeal which is the aesthetic influence of the artist's work and makes a visually arresting center piece for any interior. "Paul Chaleff is known for his large-scale wood fired ceramic sculptures and vessels. He also created a large body of wheel thrown functional vessels. His vessels are strongly influenced by Japanese pottery, especially the work of one of Japan’s National Living Treasures, Takeshi Nakazato. Chaleff was one of the first American potters using a Japanese style Anagama kiln and became a leader in the introduction of this form of wood-burning kiln. In 1989, he began a regular collaboration with the British sculptor Sir Anthony Caro. Over a period of thirteen years, they created nearly 50 works, both figurative and abstract. Caro’s sculpture has had direct influence on Chaleff’s work as has the sculpture of Isamu Noguchi, and the ceramics of John Mason...Category
