About the Item

This is a most stunning example of the well known and respected lamp makers of the early 20th century, Handel. These scenic overlays are highly desirable, especially when they lots of beautiful metalwork on each shade panel, and are painted on the glass beneath the metalwork, and in other areas as well. The base has that warm brown patina that Handel is known for, and the glass is especially choicely selected, with green smaller panels and sunset colors for the upper portions. This one has everything. This is a very complicated lamp to construct. It also the largest example made in a table lamp. The base has 4 sockets to get plenty of light on the glass. For an example of this lamp, please consult "The Handel Lamps Book" by Caroline Hibel, John Hibel, and John Fontaine, Page 49. It came in a table lamp and a floor lamp. The base is signed in 2 places, impressed on the side of the base bottom, and a felt tag on the underside. The shade is unsigned, but guaranteed to be Handel. We bought this right out of the house here in town from the family that have always owned it. The base and shade have always been together. We mention the 2 small flaws below in the condition category. We photographed these areas. We also photographed the inside of the shade and we show a long straight line going from side to side just below the green glass segment. That is not any damage whatsoever. It is just a line in the making of one side of the glass. It's not visible from the outside nor is it a crack.

2 flaws. None detract from the overall beauty and are barely noticeable. One 1'' piece of metal overlay is missing and is shown in our photos. A curvy 3'' hairline crack (now glued tightly) near the top of the same panel, shown also.
