Pair 19th C. Adam Style Carved Pine & Gilt Pricket Candlesticks, Now Electrified

About the Item

Pair of 19th Century or Older English Carved Pine and Gilt Pricket Candlesticks, Now Electrified, in the Robert Adam Style Hand-Carved Pine & Gilded Neoclassical Elegance: Later Electrification This exceptional pair of 19th-century or older English carved pine pricket candlesticks, now electrified as table lamps, beautifully embodies the refined elegance of the Robert Adam style, a hallmark of neoclassical design in the late 18th century. Originally designed as pricket candlesticks, the pair has been thoughtfully converted into lamps, allowing for modern functionality while preserving their historic charm. Each lamp features a hand-carved pine wood base, adorned with intricate classical details and enhanced by subtle gilt accents. The slender, fluted bodies are elegantly tapered, evoking the form of neoclassical columns, while delicate carved garlands and scrolling floral motifs add a sophisticated decorative touch—both signature elements of Adam’s celebrated designs. The bases rest on robust lion paw feet, a classical motif often used by Adam to reference ancient Greco-Roman influences and to convey a sense of grandeur and stability. The restrained use of gilding highlights the elaborate carvings without overpowering the natural warmth of the pine wood, a characteristic approach in Adam's work that balances opulence with refinement. These lamps, standing an impressive 36 inches high to the top of the socket and 31 inches high to the top of the column, are raised on a 10-inch diameter triangular paw-footed base. These works are perfect for any interior seeking classical elegance. Their symmetrical design and neoclassical motifs make them ideal for flanking a console, enhancing bedside tables, or adding a touch of sophistication to a formal living space. Both lamps are in excellent antique condition with minor wear consistent with age, which only enhances their character. Rewired, ready for your choice of shades; shades are not included. Overall Measurements: 36 inches high to the top of the socket/31 inches high to the top of the column, raised on a 10-inch diameter triangular paw-footed base.
