About the Item

Table lamps designed in the 1960s by Hans-Agne Jakobsson. Solid wooden base painted white (original finish) with brass accent. New lampshades (diameter 7.87" / 20cm, height 7" / 18cm). Manufactured by AB Markaryd in Sweden, manufacturer labels present under both lamps. Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919-2009) was a Swedish interior architect and furniture designer, renowned for his extraordinary lighting designs. His creative light fixtures, which used unique angles and materials, were celebrated for producing a gentle quality of light. He had a rare talent for manipulating light's direction and color. Throughout his career, Jakobsson showcased his work in several notable exhibitions, both within Sweden and internationally, including the 1957 Milan Triennale. Jakobsson studied architecture in Gothenburg and, after graduating, interned with Carl Malmsten. He also worked as an industrial designer at General Motors and as an assistant to Werner West at Stockmann AB in Helsinki. However, it was at Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, where he was employed later, that he discovered his true passion and mentorship under Hans Bergström, who significantly influenced Jakobsson's career. In 1951, Jakobsson and his wife Lisa Jakobsson founded Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Åhus, focusing primarily on lighting design. Their company experienced rapid success, causing some tension with Hans Bergström of Ateljé Lyktan. In 1953, Jakobsson relocated the business to Markaryd, which became his permanent home. Together, Hans-Agne and Lisa Jakobsson created lighting and furniture designs that appealed to a wide range of people, from architects to homemakers. Jakobsson was widely recognized for his artistic expression, meticulous attention to detail, and commitment to quality. Original EU-plugs, can be replaced by US plugs for free.
