About the Item
Pair of Sculptural accolay lamp in ceramic, resin and copper. Double lighting in the lampshade. Good condition. Height: 144 cm. Diameter: 31 cm. No crack.
The Accolay pottery was created after the Second World War by 4 former students of Alexandre Kostanda, a Polish-born ceramist who had worked in Vallauris. Close to the Nationale 6, the potters came up with the idea of using service stations to exhibit their work, enabling passing tourists to appreciate it.
The artists, led by André Boutaud, created chess pieces, ceramic figures with a wire structure, glazed earthenware pieces with ethnic motifs, masks and more.
The pottery ceased production in the late 1980s.
