About the Item

Pair of antique brown glazed stoneware jugs, converted into table lamps, feature traditional shape with applied finger ring handles, rounded shoulders, and narrow necks; they are decorated in rich, earthy brown glaze. The lamps have been mounted on a custom solid turned wood bases. The antique, hand crafted jugs offer slight variation in color of the brown glaze, appropriate to a unique, handmade pieces. The jugs would be originally used for storage of whiskey or liquor; rounded body and narrow neck reflect traditional 19th-century design. One of the jugs is marked with "J. Fisher Lyons NY" on the shoulder below the spout; the mark refers to the salt-glazed stoneware pottery run by Jacob Fisher in Lyons, New York, from 1872 to 1902. Another jug is unmarked. The lamps are in fully operational, good vintage or antique condition; they have been rewired with new premium sockets. The elegant, sculptural form, high quality craftsmanship, and traditional Folk Art subject will make the lamps a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Modern Farmhouse, Eclectic, Minimalist, Transitional, Modern Country, Organic Modern, Japandi, Collected, or Contemporary. Provenance: the lamps were acquired in Western New York State; we are offering an extra large brown salt glazed stoneware jug lamp from the same region in a separate listing.
