Pair of Antique Carved Conch Shell Accent Table Lamps with Mythological Motif

About the Item

These antique carved shell accent lamps are unsigned, but presumed to have originated from Italy and dating to approximately 1920 and done in a Renaissance Revival style. The lights are natural conch style shells which have been elaborately hand-carved with mythological vignettes. The carved shells are mounted with threaded cast and cold-painted tripod bases, and the legs are done to resemble stylized griffins. The cold-painted bases are done in a deep green which gives the appearance of patinated bronze. The wiring on one lamp is quite brittle and should be replaced, but both are working.

Rewired: The lamps have different wiring, and it is likely that at least one has been re-wired at some point. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. One shell is chipped at the rear of the top, and some wear to the painted tripod bases as presented in the photos and consistent with age and use.
