A pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Rouge Griotte marble and Ormolu lamp
About the Item
An impressive and large scale pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Rouge Griotte marble and Ormolu lamps, signed Fournisseur & Graveur, Paris. Each beautiful urn mounted into a lamp is raised by on an octagonal marble base supported on a finely mottled Ormolu base plate below. Atop the marble base is an Ormolu socle decorated by mottled edges, a dentil patterned band, fluted designs, and palmettes. The peak of the socle has a stunning Ormolu decorative mount of scrolling foliate designs which support the urn shaped marble body above. The marble body is decorated by two Ormolu lion busts that serve as handles. The neck of the body contains a spiraling laurel vine Ormolu band below a mottled edge marble socle. The top rim displays a smaller scale Ormolu socle with a dentil patterned band and a wave of flames that surrounds the base of the central fut which leads to the two electrified bulbs.
