Rosanna Toso was part of the Toso familly, one of the 1st which implanted on the Murano Island with the company Barovier Toso. She, with her brothers, all worked in another familly company called the "Fratelli Toso", (1854-1983) , which she has been the director from the mid 1970's until its dissolution in 1983. She then turned to light designing and worked also for Leucos. Her most known work is this "Idra" serie in 1982 that was then declined in different sizes and colours as table lamps and sconces.
The technique used here is called Sommerso. It is composed of different layers of glass on top of each other to give thickness and an illusion of depth in the glass.
Between each layers has been incorporated murrines. They have been carefully placed to create an illusion of flowing down the globe from its top to the base like a waterfall with its source on top of it.
