About the Item
A Pair of Signed Sterling Bronze Co. New York. Ormolu and Carrara Marble Table Lamps, Attributed to E.F. Caldwell and Co.
Each lamp combines gilded bronze with hand-carved Carrara marble, showcasing classical design influences. The tapered ormolu columns are richly detailed with floral and foliate motifs and are topped with flame finials.
The marble bases feature layered acanthus leaves and fluted carvings, resting on gilded paw feet that add a touch of grandeur. The contrasting textures of the polished marble and the warm gilt bronze create a balanced and elegant design.
Renowned for their craftsmanship, Caldwell & Co. specialized in high-quality decorative lighting. These lamps retain their original dual sockets and pull chains, making them both functional and visually striking additions to any setting. There are examples of other objects, including ones in Christie's Auction, which were stamped with Sterling Bronze Co Marks, and were also featured in Caldwell designs. This demonstrates that the manufactories collaborated with one another, designating the stylistic features of these lamps to Caldwell and Co.
