Pair of Table Lamps with Hand Carved Temple Lions Mounted in Nickel

About the Item

Fantastic pair of antique hand carved temple Lion sculptures that were mounted in Nickel as table lamps in the 60's giving them both a midcentury and antique feel. From a unique home in Cambridge, Massachusetts with an art collection ranging from Picasso to Calder to Lichtenstein. Most likely these carved lions are 19th century Asian, perhaps earlier. Remnants of old paint and lacquer are still attached. One lion is slightly larger than the other and the mount reflects that. They are not identical but a near pair in terms of size and design. Lamps bases are 18.10" high and 17.80" high. 32" height is to the top of the finial on both. Plus they have a great weight to them. To the eye they are slightly darker than the photography. They have two pull chains and a switch on the back. Simply sublime and a unique find in today's world! Price is for the pair.

Wear consistent with age and use. Presents well, some de-stressing to wood over time, remnants of old paint, age cracks in wood body and base, age appropriate wear, older plug. Temple lions are antique.
