About the Item

Pair of tall Danish Mid-Century stoneware table lamps of the 1960-70s. The bottom part of the lamps is glazed in a dark reddish brown with blue and ochre accents, decorated with an impressed double triangle pattern. The upper part is not glazed and shows the natural ochre colour of the clay. Model Nr 3117, manufactured by Søholm Stentøj (Soholm pottery) on the island of Bornholm, Denmark. Design by Erling Mortensen. Søholm Stentøj, which means Soholm’s sandstone, was founded in 1835 by Herman Sonne Wolffsen and Edvard Sonne. The name Søholm, comes from the factory where the two founders were employed, a pottery near Copenhagen, in 1828-1839. It was the oldest factory operating in Bornholm, a Danish island off the south coast of Sweden, until it closed in 1996. In the middle of the 20th century, Søholm produced a wide range of stoneware in various patterns and shapes. Several Designers worked for Søholm Stentøj as Einar Johansen, Maria Philippi, Noomi Backhausen among others. The lamps are signed with the manufacturer's mark and with the initials "EM" for Erling Mortensen. They come with new lampshades. New textile wiring and sockets. Work with 110v and 220v and E26/E27 bulbs. The EU-plugs can be replaced by US-plugs for free. Lampshade diameter: 13" (33cm). Total height including lampshade: 23.23" (59cm). Height of the lamp base including socket: 16.93" (43cm). Diameter of the lamp base: 4.33" (11cm).
