About the Item

Elegant swirling emerald green Swedish Mid-Century Modern Sommerso style art glass table lamp. Designed by Swedish Flygsfors' chief designer in the early 1950s, Paul Kedelv, known for his organic shapes and use of vivid colors. Deep forest green crystal encased in clear crystal swirling from top to bottom with a square base with soft corners. Switch on original fitting. Wiring for EU and US. Manufacturer's name etched under base. Beautiful vintage condition. Sweden, 1950s. Flygsfors was founded in 1888 in the Smaland region of Sweden by Ernst Wiktor Lundqvist and August Zeitz, mainly to produce window glass. The handmade window glass production was discontinued in 1920. In 1930, the company was named Flygsfors Glasbruk AB and began producing tableware, jars and lighting and soon moving into producing glass prisms and ornamental items. In 1949, Paul Kedelv joined Flygsfors as chief designer mainly to design light fixtures but is today also very well known for his sculptural art glass in bright colors which includes the Coquille series. After he left the company, Marie Bergqvist took over for a while and in 1955 Wiktor Berndt designed both lighting fixtures and art glass until Orrefors took over the company in 1974.
