Pairpoint Glass Lamp #D3070
Located in Bloomfield Hills, MI
SALE ONE WEEK ONLY This is a beautiful brass and glass lamp with a flock of geese in flight over a water landscape. Shading of sky has the soft blue and golden color of an evening sunset. Pairpoint is known for three kinds of glass lampshades, originally produced from the mid-1890s through the mid-1920s: reverse painted landscape shades (where the glass is hand painted on the inside surface so colors appear softly through the glass), blown out reverse painted shades, and ribbed reverse painted shades, mostly with floral designs and landscape scenes. In 1910, the company began using a spherical knop (or "bubble ball") on some of its pieces, a technique involving trapping air bubbles inside a piece of glass in a symmetrical pattern, which can be applied to ice buckets, decanters, glassware, and other pierces. This became a trademark of the company. Pairpoint's reverse painted lamps are generally considered to be the most popular and expensive of such lamps on the market. Pairpoint Glass Company is an American glass manufacturer based in Sagamore, Massachusetts. It is currently the oldest operating glass company in the United States. The company was founded by Deming Jarves in 1837 in South Boston, Massachusetts, as the Mount Washington Glass...

Pairpoint Glass Company is an American glass manufacturer based in Sagamore, Massachusetts. It is currently the oldest operating glass company in the United States. The company was founded by Deming Jarves in 1837 in South Boston, Massachusetts, as the Mount Washington Glass Works. In 1870, Mount Washington relocated to New Bedford, Massachusetts. In the 1880s, the company primarily produced art glass. In 1885, it introduced Burmese art glass, a translucent, heat reactive glass that shades from yellow at the bottom to pink at the top. The company became known for this type of glass, obtaining a British patent for it in 1886, and presenting a number of Burmese pieces to Queen Victoria. In 1880, British silver designer Thomas Pairpoint (1838-1902) resigned his position as head designer at the Meriden Brittania Company and founded the Pairpoint Manufacturing Company...

Located in Brooklyn, NY
Pairpoint Glass Co. Poppy flower stained glass table lamp, Vienna shade, 1920. Obverse-painted and enameled glass shade in "Vienna" style, patinated silver plate base. Color and size of floral gives this antique a preternatural freshness and modern feel. Note the sinuous elegance of the base and the gentle manner in which the frame branches up to hold the shade before continuing upward to connect to each blossom. Masterfully designed work. Gallé Cameo Glass Table Lamp
Located in New Orleans, LA
Statuesque and artfully etched, this exquisite cameo glass table lamp is the work of the famed Art Nouveau master Émile Gallé, one of the most highly regarded names in French glassmaking. The artist's appreciation of nature is on full display in the detailed Marguerite daisy pattern carefully etched in varying layers of colored glass. The blooms dance across the lamp's amber-colored form in mesmerizing shades of purple and red. When lit, the lamp emits an enticing warm glow. Nearly two feet in height, the lamp is much larger than is typical of Gallé's pieces, yet it maintains its grace and proportion. Émile Gallé opened a small woodworker's shop in 1885, where he began experimenting with marquetry in furniture and naturalistic glass designs. In 1889, he displayed his new glass creations at the Paris International Exhibition, where the designs and colors not previously seen caused an immediate sensation. The new style of Art Nouveau had begun to appear, and the movement's aesthetics and devotion to nature appealed greatly to the young Gallé. In 1894 Gallé built a manufacturing plant in Nancy and began creating his own designs from inception through production. Gallé personally developed many of the designs, and he was known to actively make alterations and approve the designs of his talented team of designers and craftsmen he employed at the "Cristallerie D'Emile Gallé." Signed "Gallé" on shade and base Circa 1920 Literature: A. Duncan, G. de Bartha, Glass by Gallé, London, 1984, p. 170, pl. 245 for another lamp of this model A. Duncan, G. de Bartha, Gallé Lamps...
