About the Item
A Magnificent Pair of 19th Century French Ormolu Mounted Faux Malachite Painted Porcelain Lamps with Bronze Neoclassical Maiden form Handles. Each lamp has an ovoid-shaped body with a malachite-patterned surface. The bodies are mounted with two gilt bronze figural handles extending from the shoulder to the midsection, cast in the form of caryatid figures with detailed drapery and facial features. The upper rim is encircled by a gilt bronze band with a beaded edge.
The lower section of each urn is encased in a gilt bronze mount with a relief of acanthus leaves. The urns are supported by a gilt bronze pedestal with a fluted design and rest on a stepped, gilt bronze base with applied floral ornaments. The hand-painted faux malachite patterns are exceptionally done to perfectly replicate real malachite stone. The ormolu mounts are wonderfully hand-chased and hand-chiseled with extraordinary quality and craftsmanship.
Each lamp is fitted with a central gilt bronze column extending upward from the urn’s opening, secured by a gilt bronze collar. The column supports a twin socket fixture with two pull-chain switches, each terminating in a small gilt bronze finial. The fixture is affixed to the column with a horizontal crossbar. The wiring extends through the base, exiting at the lower edge of the pedestal.

A Beautiful Pair of 19th/Early 20th Century Chinese Lavender Ground Famille Rose Decorated Porcelain Lamps on French Ormolu Mounts. Each lamp is of bulbous form with a gorgeous light lavender ground which is very unusual for Chinese porcelain. The bodies are decorated with Daoist symbols which are beautifully enameled with array of colors and traditional Chinese motifs. The base of the vases consists of a border that is beautifully hand-enameled and gorgeously decorated with a traditional Chinese floral design. The bases of the vases are mounted with French ormolu mounts with laurel wreaths all hand-chased and hand-chiseled into the ormolu.
