Qing Dynasty Chinese Porcelain Lamp with Decorations and Base Without Lampshade

About the Item

We kindly invite you to read the full description, as we aim to provide detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our items. This exquisite Chinese porcelain lamp is mounted on a finely crafted circular wooden base. The porcelain features a slender shape with an elongated neck and an elegantly rounded body. The decoration on the front showcases a majestic phoenix accompanied by a floral motif of peonies, while the back and neck of the lamp are adorned exclusively with peonies. All the decorations are entirely hand-painted in shades of orange and gold. The intricate detailing and masterful craftsmanship make this piece truly one of a kind. The meticulous attention to detail and the use of traditional Chinese motifs give this object significant symbolic value. Based on the decorative style and the wooden base, we can date this lamp to the late Qing Dynasty, specifically between 1908 and 1911. This type of hand-painted porcelain was often produced in the renowned city of Jingdezhen, famous for its millennia-old porcelain-making tradition. The round wooden base supporting the lamp is a typical example of Chinese craftsmanship. The lamp is ready to be electrified: once a lampshade holder is installed at the top of the neck, the wiring can be passed through the dedicated brass tube and exit at the bottom of the base. You can then add a lampshade of your choice. The message conveyed by the artisan through this decoration is deeply fascinating and rich in meaning. The symbolism of the various elements is deeply rooted in Chinese culture: • The Phoenix: A symbol of the Empress and beauty, the phoenix is also an emblem of peace and order. According to Chinese tradition, the phoenix appears only during times of harmony and stability. • The Peony: Known as the “King of Flowers” in Chinese culture, the peony is considered an unofficial national flower of China (along with the peach blossom). It represents good fortune, wealth, honor, and prosperity. As a symbol of love, affection, feminine beauty, and spring, the peony is a highly significant motif. Depicting a peony alongside a phoenix amplifies the message of luxury, harmony, and sophistication. This lamp is an authentic artistic masterpiece, a unique piece that combines tradition and elegance. Expertly crafted, its graceful, slender body, adorned with detailed floral motifs and the figure of the phoenix, evokes the timeless beauty of Eastern culture. The warm orange and gold tones blend harmoniously with the porcelain’s pristine white background, creating a stunning visual effect. The lamp is in good condition, with only minor scuffs visible on the wooden base (as shown in the photos). • Dimensions: Diameter 20 cm, Height 43 cm, Base Diameter 14 cm.
