Exquisitely handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam from a rare vintage Delft Green vase by Velsen Keramiek Sassenheim, Jade Blossom is a one-of-a-kind table lamp. This unique designer piece marries the artistry of Velsen's renowned Dutch pottery with contemporary design elements. The vase, painted by a Velsen master artisan between 1950 and 1970, embodies the rich tradition of Delft ceramics. We've paired this exquisite base with a hand-pleated lampshade crafted from luxurious Thai silk in a complementary soft peach color, along with a sleek black cord. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way. The Velsen factory, originally known as Pottery Kennemerland, was founded in the late 1920s by Eelke Snel and Koen Mertens in Velsen-Noord. Eelke, a craftsman deeply rooted in Dutch ceramic tradition, began his career at the Amphora factory and later at St. Lukas, significantly contributing to the pottery craft. Under his leadership, Velsen evolved from producing simple hand-painted designs to more artistic and refined ceramics, gaining renown for quality and innovation. During World War II, the factory relocated to Sassenheim and was renamed Velsen, continuing its tradition of excellence with new designs and techniques. Delft Green, or Delfts Groen, represents a rare and captivating variation within the spectrum of colors traditionally associated with Delftware, more famously known for its blue and white ceramics. Originating from the early attempts in the 17th century to imitate the colors and styles of imported Chinese porcelain, Delftware expanded to include a range of colors, including the less common green.
