Rare Glass Dome Table Lamps by Cosack Leuchten, Germany 1970s

About the Item

Gebrüder Cosack (Gecos), was a lighting company from Neheim-Hüsten, Germany founded in 1848. The company no longer exists, making remaining pieces hard to come by. This is especially true for these brass dome table lamps that are very rare. With their polished brass bases, necks, and greyish-brown smoked crystal clear glass globe lampshades, these table lamps exude a futuristic appeal. Thanks to their sleek and minimalistic design, these 1970s lamps are perfect for those seeking a touch of space-age aesthetics. The lamps feature a round brass base with wide necks that connect seamlessly to the glass. The striking translucent smoked glass globes are the focal points of the structures, showing off the brass necks holding the bulbs. The opening at the top of the shades and the transparent nature of the glass allow for a captivating play of light and shadows, creating an intriguing visual effect when illuminated. Crafted with quality in mind, this pair is sturdy and built to last. Its bases provide stability and a contemporary touch, while the smoked glass domes add a sense of mystery and sophistication to the overall design. The design embraces the allure of both the mid-century modern and space age eras’ design characteristics with a result that is mature, well-thought-out, and timelessly stylish. German designers were known for their meticulous approach to design, and this pair is a testament to their dedication to creating high-quality and beautiful lighting fixtures. These table lamps were carefully crafted by Cosack Leuchten to ensure a perfect fit and finish, adding to the overall durability and aesthetic pleasing look. Condition: In good vintage condition consistent with age and use. The brass parts have some marks and beautiful patina. Dimensions: 11.02 in Ø x 17.51 in H 28 cm Ø x 44.5 cm H About the manufacturer: The Gebrüder Cosack (Gecos) company was founded in 1848 as a metal processing plant in Neheim-Hüsten, Germany by Egon, Friedrich, and Theodor Cosack. In the beginning they made liturgical items and crosses made of brass, and they also produced kerosene lamps. Later the company came to the production of electric lamps. After the Second World War Cosack pursued a modern direction. A bestseller were copper lighting for restaurants. The company was declared bankrupt in 1984. The best known designers the company has collaborated with were Ursula or Gottfried Stürzenhofecker (remains unclear, they are both designers) and K. H. Kinsky. Gebrüder Cosack (Gecos) received 15 iF Design Awards.
