About the Item
Meticulously handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam, Indigo & Blanca are a one-of-a-kind pair of table lamps made from vintage Royal Delft Blue vases, Louis XV model, hand-painted by Royal Delft master painters in 1978 and 1979. These exquisite lamps are paired with custom, classic, oval hand-pleated lampshades in a rich cobalt blue along with matching cords. The lamps were created without harming the original vases in any way.
The vase bases feature traditional baluster shapes, scrolling C-curve rocaille cartouches, and eight sides, all painted in classic Delft blue with intricate floral motifs. This design reflects the Louis XV style, which De Porceleyne Fles, one of the oldest and most prestigious Dutch Delftware manufacturers, adopted in the late 19th century to meet the growing demand for ornamental pieces.
De Porceleyne Fles, now known as Royal Delft, was founded in 1653 and is the only remaining ceramics factory out of the 32 established in Delft during the 17th century. With a legacy spanning over 360 years, Royal Delft is highly respected for its artistry, and its motifs find their roots in Chinese porcelain from the Ming and K'ang Hsi dynasties. These lamps beautifully exemplify the fusion of Delftware and the Louis XV style, making them a valuable piece of history and art.
