Scandinavian Modern Stoneware Table Lamp by "Okela", Denmark, 1960s
About the Item
Beautiful handmade stoneware table lamps from Okela ceramics workshop in Denmark. Matte white glaze with elegant hand painted line decor. The lamps has been mounted with a new flax linen shade. Signed underneath.
Height with lampshade mounted: 67 cm. / 26.4 inches.
Lampshade bottom diameter: 30 cm. / 11.8 inches.
While Hans J. Wegner, Kaare Klint and Finn Juhl led the way for the success of Denmarks dominance at the field of modern furniture production Danish arts and crafts was also flourishing. The most well-known names are probably Silversmith George Jensen, Ceramist Axel Salto and Woodworker Kay Bojesen, but despite Denmark's modest size, there were a multitude of small workshops with arts and crafts that produced high-quality objects to everyday life. Much of it was sold directly from the workshops, but also more established shops such as "Den Permanente" and "Illums Bolighus" in Copenhagen exhibited and sold works from these workshops in the 1940-70s.
