About the Item
A tasteful pair of Scandinavian table lamps, model 51416, crafted from brass with an ornamented base and a tall pillar holding an E27 lamp holder with an integrated light switch. Produced in the 1940s by the renowned Swedish lighting manufacturer Upsala Armaturfabrik. (Sometimes spelled Uppsala Armaturfabrik.) The fixtures come with new lampshades in pleated linen textile produced in Denmark. Height 58 cm shades included, height foot approximately 48 cm, diameter shade 32 cm.
Upsala Armaturfabrik was founded in the Swedish town of Uppsala in 1915 but was moved to the capital of Stockholm after only a few years. By the 1940s, Upsala Armaturfabrik had developed into a large lighting manufacturer producing modern as well as more traditional fixtures made from brass, glass, and textile. In the 1960s, production moved to the small town of Hultsfred in an attempt to cut costs, but the harsh financial situation finally forced the company into liquidation in 1970. The assets were sold, and production has since then been continued on a small scale by different actors.
