About the Item

The Finnish company Stockmann Orno, founded in 1921 in Helsinki, was known to produce high-quality lighting fixtures for residential and commercial spaces. The company embraced the use of diverse materials - glass, metals, precious woods, and leather - to create unique shapes and embrace revolutionary new ideas in the realm of design. Designers like Lisa Johansson-Pape were constantly inspired by nature in their work during the mid-century era. Subtly incorporating natural fabrics, such as leather, within her models showcased her application of modern ideas in the composition of lighting design. On the “Senator” table lamp, the beautifully aged dark brown leather wraps around the stem, revealing a nuanced interplay of warm tones which adds character as well as depth to the piece. Two significant elements of the lamp - its neck and round base - shine in their mesmerising honey-toned glow crafted in brass, their smoothness contrasting with the textured leather winding around the stem. The elegant lampshade “crowns” over the rest of the lamp in its deep dark hue, enhancing the beautiful contrast of the dominant golden-yellow and brown elements even further, blending textures and colours magnificently. The enameled metal shade is supported by an inner acrylic reflector, creating a more evenly diffused glow of the soft light. Finnish designers excelled in creating many of the most well-known models of mid-century lighting fixtures. Made out of high quality materials this table lamp truly stands the test of time, retaining its allure across generations. With its quiet presence, the “Senator” model is a timeless piece that complements any interior. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Some marks and scratches. The lamp has recently been rewired. Dimensions: 16.14 in ø x 23.03 in H 41 cm ø x 58.5 cm H
