About the Item
Sergio Mazza & Giuliana Gramigna “Magnolia” table lamp for Quattrifolio, chrome and glass, Italy, 1973.
This rare "Magnolia" table lamp, designed by Sergio Mazza and Giuliana Gramigna in 1973, features a large opaline glass shade mounted on a distinctive chrome base with cylindrical legs. The mushroom-shaped opaline shade creates a soft, diffused light, appearing as if almost gently cradling the chromed base. The lamp is operated with a vintage switch and cable.
In 1961, Mazza and Gramigna founded the SMC Architecture Studio, collaborating on numerous projects. Besides their work for Quattrifolio, they worked for Artemide, furniture for Cinova, and handles for Olivari. Their designs are notable for their elegance and functionality.
The pair also made significant contributions to design literature. In 1966, they founded and directed the influential design magazine “Ottagono”. This publication became a key platform for contemporary design culture in Italy, earning the Compasso d’Oro award in 1979. Ottagono was supported by leading Italian design companies such as Arflex, Artemide, Bernini, Boffi, Cassina, Flos, ICF, and Tecno.
Mazza's collaboration with Ernesto Gismondi led to the founding of Artemide in 1959, where Mazza designed several iconic pieces.

Luigi Caccia Dominioni "Porcino" table lamp for Azucena, glass and steel, Italy, 1966.
The Luigi Caccia Dominioni "Porcino" Table Lamp, designed in 1966 for Azucena, takes its name from the valuable "porcino" mushroom, reflecting the lamp's distinctive rounded shape. Its cylindrical chrome-plated brass base and socket support a spherical frosted glass diffuser with an opening at the base, recalling the mushroom's cap. The frosted glass softens the light for a gentle glow, while the smooth, unworked band at the base enhances its sculptural presence. This design plays with light and shadow, highlighting the lamp's architectural precision. The Porcino lamp...
