Table Lamp by Guido Gambone
$8,100

About
A graphically stunning ceramic table lamp by postwar Italy's greatest ceramist, Guido Gambone. The enigmatic design of intricately but spontaneously decorated squares and rectangles is arrayed over the surface of the ceramic lamp-base with the beautiful irregularity of the windows of Le Corbusier's chapel at Ronchamp. This is a substantial and impressive piece, standing 34.75" high.
Though the ceramic form is vase-like, this is not a vase that was later modified into a lamp, but was made by Guido Gambone to be a lamp-base -- as revealed in the last five photos, which show the ceramic vessel without its base and functional fittings (a state in which it can also be displayed to fine effect if a lamp is not what you are seeking). In perfect condition, with no flaws whatsoever. The linen shade is new, as is the wiring. Fully signed, with the artist's famous "donkey mark".
The ceramic vessel alone, without shade or base, measures 21" tall with a diameter of 7". The shade is 12" tall with a diameter of 16". The brass plinth is 1.75" tall, and 7" square. Overall height with base and shade is 34.75".
