About the Item
Handcarved Makrana Marble and stone base table lamp "Nearness I" by designer Alba Abiad with Naveen Jose.
Carved out from a single piece of marble, handpicked and handcrafted, the light belongs to a unique collection that resembles celestial bodies. A portion from a stone landscape, removed from its original context, lacks the authenticity of experience but carries the essence of its source. The process of carving transforms the inherent heaviness and opaqueness of the material into lightness and transparency. The presence of light acts as a tool to reveal the authentic nature of the landscape it comes from, allowing the viewer to experience a connection with the cosmic landscape.
Alba Abiad (is a half Spanish-half Syrian architect, graduated from ETSAB (Barcelona).
She lived in India, Japan, China, Austria, Greece and Spain studying and working with renowned architects and artists such as Bijoy Jain, Kengo Kuma, Arata Isozaki, Riken Yamamoto, Ricardo Bofill.
In a permanent state of movement, she works with natural materials that emerge from the ground and return back to the ground, like the human body.
Objects as means of communication between civilizations, establishing a universal language which connects us all.
A collection by Alba Abiad in collaboration with Naveen Jose (from India, architect. They met working together at Studio Mumbai).
