Depicting a Winged Sphinx made of giltwood on a marble base.
Between the wings arise a 4 armed gilt bronze candelabra with above 2 light bulbs. Matching lampshades with gold trim and interior.

The previous fashionable style in France was the Directoire style, which replaced the neoclassicism of the Louis XVI style with more restrained and minimalist forms. The new Empire style brought a full return to ostentatious wealth.
