About the Item

Sophisticated, well built and breathtaking desk or table lamp made in 1969 by Tomas Diaz Magro for Fase Madrid, Spain. Torpedo is the name and probably one of the most rare desk lamps produced by Fase Madrid. Tomas Diaz Magro designed several lights for Fase, this being our favourite, since it’s hard to keep your eyes away from it. The lines from the base leading up to the chrome rod and ends up with the height adjustable torpedo shaped shade. Looking from the side the angle of the base and rod makes it look like a launch pad for the torpedo head, which makes it just stunning. Details, materials and the overall condition are just marvellous. The rod is not just a simple chrome plated rod, but looking carefully at the foot of the rod, you see that is curves beautiful from the base (please see detailed picture). The torpedo light shade is state of the art. The first part is a curved solid piece of hardwood (think it’s maple) a centre ring of plated chrome and than the glossy burgundy or maroon lacquered shade. Inserting a magnetic piece of metal in the solid wood and combine a machine carved large knob, you are able to slide the shade to the height position wanted. Turn the shade 360 degrees and you got a very flexible light source. All this being said, the Torpedo has never left the showroom, where it was displayed. It still got the Fase Spain badge attached to the cord and there is very few traces of usage to either part of the light. Light source: E27 / E26 edison screw fitting max 60W. Comes of course with the original cord and EU plug. Size: 43.5cm / 17.1” high, the light shade is 31.5cm / 12.4” long and the base has a diameter of 15cm / 5.9”. The complete light is 49cm / 19.3” deep.
