Venini 12" Sommerso Inciso Blue / Amber Lamp, Three Line Acid Etched

About the Item

A beautiful shaded lamp by Paolo Venini for Venini from the mid 1950's. The lamp is "sommerso" which in English literally means "submerged". This technique is used to create several layers of glass (usually with different contrasting colors) inside a single object. This bottle appears to be clear glass incased in blue / amber glass. The surface of the lamp base is "inciso" which in English means engraved or incised, this process is done by hand on a grinding wheel. A similar example is listed in the book Venini: Catalogue Raisonné 1921 - 1986, Diaz de Santillana, page 301. The shade is different that the catalog, so I am not certain it is original, the electrical fittings are different as well. The lamp stands approximately 12 inches tall, the glass on the base is 3 inches tall and 3 1/2 inches in diameter. The bottom of the lamp is acid etched: Venini / Murano / Italia and there is remnants of a Venini sticker.
