About the Item

Vintage French ceramic lamp with Russian motif by Jacques Blin (circa 1950s). This very large, stunning lamp created in the South of France (Vallauris) incorporates Blin's characteristic sgraffito-etchings. On its surface you will find a series of Russian-inspired images, most likely St. Basil's cathedral (and perhaps other buildings too), in Red Square encircling the body of the lamp. Its background is off-white with very subtle hints of hues on the warmer spectrum. It is accented by the darker, misty patches so characteristic of Blin's pieces. It is exquisite, tactile and oozes vintage charm. In good overall condition. Highly collectible. The lamp has been re-wired with UK plug but you may have it easily adapted to your location. Signed on the underside: 'J. Blin'. Contemporary lampshade is included. Upon request a video of the piece may be provided. About the Artist: Jacques Blin (1920-1995), an engineer by trade but with a love for the visual arts. Blin has an immediately recognisable style characterised by a more or less misty appearance of the glaze and by decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career. He frequently depicted fanciful birds and animals, stylised figures, plant life and whimsical abstract motifs in his works. A book of Jacques Blin's life and works has been published called: 'Jacques Blin, Céramiste & Porteur d' Histoires' by Christine Lavenu, Editions Louvre Victoire, 75116 Paris. Dimensions (Ceramic Part Only): Height 48 cm / 18.9" Diameter 27 cm / 10.6".

This is an exceptional piece for admirers of the works of master ceramicist, Roger Capron. Signed: 'Capron Vallauris'. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying the listing. Upon request a video can be provided. About the Artist: The mid-century ceramic art of Roger Capron (1922-2006) embodied the vibrant spirit and verve of Vallauris and the French Côte d'Azur. He took over an abandoned pottery studio at the age of 24 in Vallauris, where he worked with Robert Picault and then Jean Derval. Capron’s ceramic workshop, known as "l'Atelier Callis", contributed to the renaissance of ceramics in Vallauris and at its peak employed over 120 ceramicists. He eventually expanded his production of vases, pitchers and other functional wares to include coffee tables with hand glazed tiles, lamp bases, wall plaques and other interior decor objects along with sculptural statues...
