Wonderful Early 1900s Bronze and Marble Table / Desk Lamp with Faun Sculptures
About the Item
Wonderfully handcrafted antique table or desk lamp for a unique ambiance.
If you are looking for a rare, beautiful design and top quality hand-crafted table lamp then this remarkable specimen could be ideal to grace your living space. The artisan metal worker who handcrafted this fine quality and detailed antique lamp truly did a great job. Mind you, every single bronze arm, pillar, faun, finial, guirlande etc first had to have been sculptured out of clay (or another material) before a mold could have been made and before the boiling bronze could have been cast. Especially the detailed fauns, the long 'legs' with hooves and the guirlandes would have been extremely time consuming and challenging to create. From all the handcrafted parts that, together, make this table lamp then molds would have to be made. All the molds must then be filled with, in this case, liquid bronze. After the hardening of the bronze and removal from the molds, all the surplus material from the castings must be removed and all pieces would have been either gilt or patinated. Finally all pieces must be fitted together and around the marble base through welding and by drilling screwthreads etc. I am sure you will understand why they don't make top quality workmanship table lamps like this anymore. It would cost a fortune.
