Large Convex Mirror, Also Called “witch mirror”, Italy 1870
About the Item
A large round metal mirror. This convex mirrors were called “witch mirrors” because they were believed to have magic powers, such as visually confusing witches if introduced into the home. In reality, placed in front of a window or door, they cast light inside the house. Mounted in a round wooden frame, brass hook, light blue color. Gilt bronze rosette in the back. Italy circa 1870.
