About the Item
19th Century Regency or Federal Carved Giltwood Convex Bullseye Mirror with Eagle Pediment. Mirror is carved in giltwood and crowned with a boldly rendered eagle pediment. The circular frame is detailed with a series of raised gilt beads, a signature feature of Federal mirrors, adding visual rhythm and depth. The eagle, wings outstretched, rests upon a cluster of carved rock work, symbolizing strength, liberty, and vigilance (patriotic emblems in early America). Convex mirrors became a hallmark of refinement in Federal interiors, not only for their ability to reflect and amplify light, but also for their symbolic and architectural presence. Mirror is 31” in height at eagle top and 4.5 inches depth including eagles wings.
