Mid-19th Century French Regency Style Gilt Wood Full Length Mirror, 87-in Tall

About the Item

Standing at an impressive 86.5 inches in height, this tall mid nineteenth century French Regency style gilt wood mirror originally hung between two windows in a manor house. The mirror features a hand carved frame detailed with a central symmetrical scalloped shell at the top, scrolling leaves and flowers. A central cartouche at the bottom is flanked by acanthus leaves. Its mercury glass mirror is made from two panes of glass, typically found in mirrors of the eighteenth century. However, here the nineteenth century creators of this mirror have mimicked the effect reusing two pieces of old mirror glass. With only a 35 inch width, this mirror would be a stunning addition at the end of a hallway or for use as a full length mirror in a bedroom or dressing room. c. 1850.
