About the Item

A rare mirrored door from an iconic Mid-Century apartment building designed by celebrated architect Enslie "Bud" Oglesby. The buidling stood at 3525 S. Congress Avenue in the Oak Lawn neighborhood of Dallas, Texas, on a sprawling acreage alongside a spring-fed creek just north of The Mansion on Turtle Creek. It was demolished in 1995, and this sliding bedroom door is a rare surviving architectural element - an important artifact from a monumental work by a dynamic and innovative leader of Dallas' Mid-Century design movement. Oglesby founded Oglesby Group Architects, one of the most important architectural firms in Dallas for decades, and many of the best architects still working in the city once worked for his firm and were directly influenced by him. With this door, we are also offering an original wood threshold from an adjacent apartment in the building - on which the sliding doors moved to close from a metal frame they rested in while open - which makes a handsome display base.
