About the Item

Truly extraordinary pair of English 19th century Gothic Revival architectural mirrors, nearly 9 feet tall. In the manner of Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (aka God's Architect). I bought these for myself to use in my London flat nearly 25 years ago from an antiques dealer on the Pimlico Road who featured them against a wall covered with dark green felt and the spotlights made the water gilding radiate. I simply had to have them. They've lived with me in Mayfair, Nob Hill, Barcelona, Central Park West and Boston. Gloria Vanderbilt made a personal request to borrow these for her 2014 art exhibition “The Left Hand is the Dreamer” at the NYDC. The water gilding and gesso on the frames has recently been stabilized and restored by Sheelin Wilson. 107 inches high. The height of the mirrored glass itself is 76 inches. They also happen to look like the arches in the Brooklyn Bridge.
