19th Century Large Ebonised and Gilded Overmantel Mirror
About the Item
A very rare and fine 19th Century gilded and ebonised overmantel mirror of exceptional quality and large proportions. The shaped mirror glass plate of rectangular form is set within a finely hand carved moulded, fluted and gilded frame with striking ebonised detail throughout and with decorative gilded foliate motifs to the top corner returns, set against ebonised ground. Surmounted an overhanging stepped breakfront pediment above simple frieze with a fabulous centred scrolling foliate motif. Raised over a pair of fluted and panelled columns with stunning arrangements of trailing bellhusk capitals, supported on shaped and moulded platform base with a further gorgeous arrangement of richly scrolling foliate and acanthus leaf motifs to each side.
