About the Item
An exceptionally rare 19th Century giltwood mirror by 'Lamb of Manchester' of immense proportions. The shaped mirror glass plate of rectangular form is set within a very fine, intricately hand carved, moulded and fluted giltwood frame with alternating decorative beaded and twisted ribbon borders flanking a beautiful hand painted panel with applied flowerhead and foliate paterae throughout. The shaped and stepped architectural pediment is surmounted with an elaborate, pierced centred crest composition comprising of centred pair of exquisite birds, ribbon bow and stylised ruffle motifs flanked with fabulous c-scrolls, flowerheads, trailing foliate, beading, scrolling acanthus leaves, egg and dart moulding, all intricately carved in high relief. The shaped and moulded platform base with a further gorgeous arrangement of greek key and trailing foliate motif detail to the each side.
