Fireplace Charles X Paolo Moschini Lombardy Third Decade Nineteenth Century
About the Item
Charles X mantelpiece entirely panelled in elm burl, Lombardy third decade of the 19th century. Attributable to the production of Paolo Moschini, a skilled marquetry and cabinetmaker active between Soncino, his hometown, and Milan in the first half of the 19th century. Front with lintel and projecting plinths, joined by double columns finely fluted and embellished with gilded wooden capitals, the upper ones of which are carved with frets and acanthus leaves. Basement and lintel edges threaded in amaranth, column profiles threaded in ebony. Central mercury mirror placed within frame.
