French 5.5' Tall Architecturally Inspired Over-mantle Mirror, 19th C.
About the Item
A large French over-mantle mirror with architectural accents from the 19th century. This antique mirror from France has a rectangular-shaped mirror at center with an inner gilt frame in ribbon and petite bead trim. The larger, outer surround features a pediment style triangular top cornice, and is flanked at both sides with flute-carved column posts that have typical Roman Ionic carvings at their tops (which project outward giving this piece nice texture and depth). There is an upper trumeau style plaque with decorative gold painted boarder and foliate at center. The finish is primarily various shades of grey with gold gilt accents, all having a nice patina and some chippy bits especially about the outer edges. Please note that the mirror is not original and has been replaced at some point. This 19th century French mirror is a good sized piece standing approximately 5.5 feet in height and nearly 4.5 feet in width.
