A Napoleon III Giltwood and Gilt-Gesso Overmantel Mirror. France, Circa 1860
This fine and large overmantle mirror is designed in the Louis XV style and abundantly decorated with attributes of spring. The arched pediment is centred by a pierced rocaille cresting flanked by doves and flowering branches. The frame is carved with ribbon interspersed with flowers. The corners have acanthus scrolls. The mirror plate is clear and useable.
