A Very Fine Large 19th Century Giltwood Overmantel or Hall Mirror
About the Item
A very fine 19th Century giltwood overmantel or hall mirror of grand proportions and exceptional quality. The shaped mirror glass plate is set within a finely hand carved, fluted, moulded and gadrooned giltwood frame with gorgeous beaded row, bellhusk, foliate, ribbon and stylised Prince of Wales feathers motifs throughout. Surmounted with a stunningly detailed pierced cartouche compostion comprising of flowerheads, foliate, ruffles, c and s scrolls flanked with an arrangement of trailing acanthus leaves and flowerheads, the base with a further arrangement of elegantly scrolling acanthus leaves to the sides, all intricately carved in high relief.
