1900s Edwardian Sterling Silver and Enamel Miniature Hand Mirror

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver and enamel miniature hand mirror; an addition to our enamel and silverware collection. This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver miniature or toy hand mirror has a circular form with a plain rounded handle. The reverse surface of the mirror is embellished with the original blue guilloche enamel reflecting a concentric ring design, emanating from the centre of the panel. The rounded sides, anterior surface and handle of this impressive mirror are plain and unembellished. The handle terminal is fitted with the original hallmarked ring loop attachment. The mirror retains its original circular glass. The word toy encompasses a variety of pieces reflecting the same proportions and design features as the original examples. Originally such pieces were either collected by adults, or played with by children as genuine toys. Condition This antique miniature hand mirror in enamel and silver is an exceptional gauge of silver for its type, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The enamel and glass are in perfect condition. Full import hallmarks struck to the anterior surface, in addition to part hallmarks to the rim of the glass and ring loop attachment are very clear.     A magnificent, fine and impressive, large antique Edwardian English sterling silver cup & cover; an addition to our antique presentation silverware collection. This magnificent and large antique Edwardian sterling silver presentation cup and cover has a Campania shaped form onto a circular spreading pedestal foot. The lower bulbous portion of the silver cup is encircled with chased fluted ornamentation. Either side of the plain upper portion of the body of this cup is embellished with an exceptional and large applied ribbon tied laurel branch wreath, replicating the border of a classic cartouche. This impressive Edwardian presentation cup retains the impressive, original hallmarked push fit cover surmounted with an exceptional, fine and impressive cast sterling silver overlapping leaf and bud style finial. The rim of this substantial cover is encompassed with an impressive applied egg and dart decorated border. This antique cup and cover is fitted with two very impressive cast sterling silver handles modelled in the form of conjoined snakes, above a figural mask and Caduceus. The pedestal is encompassed with a shaped alternating leaf decorated knop to the upper portion in junction with the body. The circular domed spreading foot is encircled with a further band of chased fluted ornamentation. Such large examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver Reed and Ribbon pattern fruit/dessert cutlery set for twelve persons made by Mappin & Webb Ltd - boxed; an addition to our dining silverware collection This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver fruit/dessert cutlery set consists of twelve knives and twelve forks. The blades of the knives have a rounded form and the forks each have four tines/prongs; the surface of each are plain and unembellished apart from the feature hallmarks. Each piece of this silver flatware service is fitted with the original hallmarked sterling silver handle, crafted in the Reed and Ribbon pattern; this pattern is also known as the Empire II pattern. Each handle is encompassed with a paralleling border of reed and tied ribbon decoration, terminating at the original sterling silver ferrules ornamented with plain embossed bands. Each knife and fork is fitted to the fine and impressive original hinged oak wood canteen box with a lift up lid and lift out tray. The interior of the box retains the original velvet lining.     Wonderful antique Edwardian round bevelled edge table mirror, featuring classic sterling silver all over repousse decoration with flowers, leaves and scrolls. There is a plain centre cartouche to the front, and a hinged easel to the back. Mounted on a faded fabric reverse, which was originally blue velvet. Measuring height 24.5cm / 9.6 inches by width 20.2cm / 7.95 inches. The frame is stamped with an anchor, a lion, and the date letter is 'd'. The makers mark is HH&S for Henry Hobson & Sons. This means that the silver mirror is sterling silver, assayed in Birmingham, England and is dated 1903. The mirror is in very good condition, the lovely silver frame has some denting and scratching.
