Brooklyn Fox Theater Mirror
About the Item
Fox Theater. The theater was designed by architect
C. Howard Crane. It opened on August 21, 1928 and seated
4,305 guests. By the early 1960s, the Fox Theater was a
popular concert venue hosted by influential rock and roll
impresario and disc jockey, Murray Kaufman, professionally
known as Murray the K.
This acid-etched peach colored mirror depicting underwater
scenes along with seventeen others, lined the theater’s
original interiors. It was in front of these mirrors that Murray
the K coined the phrase “Rock ‘n’ Roll”.
