George III Style Giltwood and Gesso Pier Mirror

About the Item

Mid 19th Century George III Style Giltwood and Gesso Pier Mirror with a spread-winged eagle crest flanked by a pair of pineapple finials above a frieze with three paterae, a rectangular beveled plate and cluster column pilasters, the eagle holds a chain with gilded brass beads that drapes to the side of the frame and terminates in small tassels. Gray toned original beveled mirror (most of the silvering gone). From The Maple Grove Estate in the Historic National Registry of Knoxville, Tennessee. Appraisal by Sotheby's 1987.
