A large & bold Italian carved giltwood & gesso pier mirror

About the Item

A large and bold 19th century or earlier Italian carved giltwood & gesso mirror. In the Mannerist taste and of tabernacle form. The central arch with split plates, flanked by classical pilasters. The dental moulded cornice above a frieze decorated with scrolling foliage and cherub masks. Of bold, architectural proportions. A similar frame can be seen in the Wallace Collection, housing a painting of Saint Catherine of Alexandria by Giovanni Battista Cima da Conegliano. Attributable to the workshop of Pietro Giusti (1822-78). Measures - 180cm H x 103cm W x 15cm D (Overall).
